Once our concrete delivery truck is on site and starting to make concrete, how is it moved to the area where the concrete is needed?  The answer depends on a number of factors.

WHEEL BARROW: For simple, smaller and closer jobs, the concrete may be emptied into wheel barrows and pushed to the pour area.  However, concrete is very heavy and would take many wheel barrow trips to move much concrete. (A yard of concrete would take maybe 20 wheel barrow trips to empty.)  If you have just a yard and the distance between the truck and the pour area isn't far and if the ground is firm and level, then moving with wheel barrow is fine and quite often done.

CONCRETE PUMP:  First, let me explain we have the ability to pump concrete with our trailer mounted line pumps.  This is the ideal way to move concrete that is going into wall forms, footing forms, etc.  The end of the pump hose fits into the wall form and is moveable down the wall as the form fills up. It is the only way to do this job.

Another situation of where pumping comes in handy is that if the ground between the truck and pour area is not flat and firm.  For example, some concrete is to be delivered in the back yard and for much of the year, the ground would not hold up under repeated wheel barrow trips.  The pump area may be uphill or downhill from the position of the truck.  Pumping is the best solution there.    Sometimes concrete is to be delivered to the second or third floor of a building and building ramps and pushing loaded wheel barrows to those heights would be a major problem.

For large flat surfaces, such as floors to a warehouse or large barn, pumping can evenly distribute the concrete throughout the area of the floor.  Pushing concrete from a dump area to the far end of the slab is difficult and time consuming.
